Here’s what to do if you or a loved one is involved in an accident:

  • Be Prepared
  • Keeping these items in your car could help you in the event of an accident:
  • Flashlight – in case you’re involved in an incident at night or are stranded after an accident
  • First-aid Kit – handy if there are minor cuts and scrapes that can be bandaged easily
  • Auto Insurance Information and Registration – to exchange information with other motorists and provide proof of insurance to police officers
  • Camera – to document damages
  • Blanket, Flares, Emergency Contacts and Medical List – in case of injuries or other emergency type situations
  • Notepad/Pen or Smartphone – to take down any necessary information about the accident

What to Do

  • Stay calm
  • Check for injuries
  • Move all vehicles to a safe place, if drivable
  • Call the police to report the accident – even if the accident appears to be minor
  • If you have a camera or a camera phone, snap some pictures of damage on vehicles and other vehicles’ license plate numbers
  • Exchange information with other drivers including:
Makes, models, years and license plate numbers of all vehicles involved
    Insurance carrier information
    Insurance policy number
  • Get other accident information such as:
    Police report information
    Passenger Information
    Car towing information
    Witness’ information
    Report the Accident

If you’ve been in a car accident, it’s important that you contact your insurance company or agent as soon as possible.
